  1. Thank goodness Fox is handling coverage of the world cup this time around. Can't imagine having to listen to these pompous windbags after every match. Don't know why ESPN thinks you can't have football commentary without British accents

  2. The rules may say it has to be intentional or "deliberate", but we've seen many PKs (internationally and in most leagues) awarded after an attacking cross comes in and strikes the defender's arm. If the arm is detached from the body, the standard call is to award the PK, even if the handball was not intentional. There are tons of examples to look at where it's clearly not the intention of the defender to touch the ball with the hand, but the PK gets called anyway. That's why you sometimes see defenders put their arms behind their back when they're about to challenge a cross. They don't want to take any risks. In the case of Rojo, the arm is clearly detached from the body. The ref may have considered the fact that the ball hit his head before it hit his arm. He was clearly in the act of heading the ball and absent a specific precedent for an " own header to detached arm" scenario and the fact that it's somewhat different than the aforementioned crossing example, the ref may have decided that it was not a PK. The crossing example may be a very specific scenario. As one of the commentators mentioned, if the defender goes to the ground and the ball hits his thigh and then the arm, it's not a PK. That scenario is similar to this case in that the ball strikes a part of the body other than the arm/hand first. This may in fact be the rule interp, but FIFA should issue some specific interpretations guidance on this issue just to make sure that everyone clearly understands the rules.

  3. VAR is made to favor big teams. teams fifa wants to pass, and eliminate the team fifa doesn't want. fifa is racist, corrupt, and evil. I will hate fifa till the nlast day of my life.

  4. Giving penalty for anything other than a clear goal scoring opportunity should be banned. It is not easy to score in soccer. And giving penalty for any faul in d-box is causing all these causing controversies.

  5. The truth is that the Argentina game Referee (who is regarded as one of the best in the world) got the call right while the Portugal game referee got it wrong. Simple

  6. Argentina sucks. 1986 Argentina vs England. Same shit. Maradona used his shorty hand to score. Cheaters. Argentina are cheaters. Sucks in football. Maradona sucks and so are the ones after him. Messi sucks too. Yesterday against Nigeria same shit. FIFA racist organization. Always on the side of the team that will bring in fans and so money. To heck with the world cup. Boycott the damned event. The whole shitty games now are fixed.
